The drying equipment is designed to utilize residual heat at a low cost. With a Biogas installation the dryer replaces the cooler from the CHP. With 500 kW two ventilators of 2,2 kW are used which barely raises the amount of electricity. When drying the sewage sludge the energy use can be reduced by 90% in contrast to the conventional dryers. The air velocity through the product is very low to prevent dust formation. When drying manure or substrate from biogas plants, cleaning the air is absolutely necessary.

Contamination, in the form of solid particulate contained in the gas-stream must be separated out and the remaining moisture content reduced. Furthermore the presence of siloxanes in the gas can also pose problems. The GES processing system for siloxane removal provides reliable protection against engine damage and operational failure.

Systems for the treatment of biomethane, prior to gas-grid injection must conform to special operational and legal requirements. Increased combustability means less wasted biogas

BKE biogas dryers are machines for reducing water content in biogas. The water content can be a form of vapor or liquid (condensate). The water vapor content in the biogas can be calculated as they are in the form of atmospheric air. Therefore the psychometric chart is applied to find the amount of water vapor in the biogas by the units of relative humidity (%RH) or absolute humidity (kg water/kg dry biogas). As long as there is no specific psychometric chart for biogas, the chart for atmospheric air is close enough and applicable.

As you remove water from the biogas you reduce the biogas temperature below the dew point. At that reduced temperature, some vapor will condense and turn to liquid (condensate). Please note that the lower the temperature, the more condensation may take more electricity consumption.

To remove condensate from the biogas handling system, a water separator is used as shown in the diagram below.

After the biogas temperature is reduced, the relative humidity is still the same at 100% RH but the absolute humidity is reduced to 0.015 kg water/kg dry biogas. The balanced amount of water is the excess water of 0.048160-0.015 = 0.03396 kg water/kg dry biogas. The excess water or condensate will be removed by the water separator. So the stage after the water separator is still keeping the relative humidity at 100% RH but minus the excess water.

The next stage is to recover the biogas temperature by reheating which can be done by natural heat transfer depending on the ambient temperature, the length of the biogas supply piping and the pipe wall conductivity. We can also force reheating by using blower(s) to boost the biogas pressure.

During combustion, the water vapour results in considerable corrosion damages to the gas engines and turbines. Malfunctions caused by these damages lead to significant downtimes and high repair costs.

The use of a gas dehumidification system can considerably extend the engines´ service life and notably reduce the maintenance costs.

The condensation of the water vapour in the gas is caused by temperature reduction which in turn results in a dehumidification. The condensate is separated out in a trap installed after the chiller and removed via a siphon. The dehumidification simultaneously results in an increased efficiency.
The EnvironTec gas dehumidification process presents a cost-effective solution in this context.

The gas dehumidification modules are available in performance ranges offering gas flow rates from 100 to 6000 Nm³/h. Special designs are also available on enquiry.

Additional application examples are configurations in combination with a post-heating stage ahead of active carbon filters and feeding into a gas pipeline to prevent subsequent condensation.

Biogas produced on waste water from sugar cane ethanol distilleries has typically a H2S content of 3,0% (30.000 ppm) and as the flow of biogas is large the sulphur load is considerable. This requires very big gas cleaners with one or two tanks

The biogas buffer consists of a circular tank with a conical roof and an inner tank, the ballast tank. The ballast tank, guided by strips on the outer tank, is connected to a special shaped membrane and will raise or descend depending of the gas flow. The ballast tank is used for counterweight and is partly filled up with concrete, which creates the gas pressure. The operating pressure is normally 30 cm water column (mbar). The height of the ballast tank determines the actual buffer volume.
