MADISON, Wisconsin – BouMatic®, a global dairy equipment and chemical manufacturer gave visitors at World Dairy Expo and other major dairy shows worldwide, a preview of its newest robotic technology with the SR1â„¢ Post Milking Robotic Spray System.

“The SR1 robotic post dip system continues BouMatic’s long tradition of innovation for the world’s dairy producers,” said John R. Mansavage, Director of Global Marketing Services. “The SR1 provides speed, durability and efficiency in a compact, robotic system for post milking application of teat dips for nearly all external rotary systems,” he added.

Rotary milking systems have long been considered the milking system with the highest continuous cow throughput. Until introduction of the SR1, an external rotary system required one person near the exit of the rotary platform to apply post dip to all cows once they were finished milking. The SR1 automatically applies the teat dip and while reducing the farm’s labor requirements.

“The SR1 not only reduces labor costs, it provides efficient teat dip usage and consistent dip application for a higher level of udder hygiene,” said Mansavage. “Added benefits include low energy demand, a compact size and the ability to retrofit into virtually any external rotary milking system,” he added.

Milk collection centres are normally placed in rural areas where farmers transport their raw milk after each milking time to be cooled in a bulk tank. The road tanker of the creamery then collects the milk from this centre. Packo has equipped many of these centres, worldwide, often under difficult climatic conditions.

A milk collection centre is usually equipped with a small milk intake vessel, a milk pump and a milk cooling tank. Other items could be e.g. a weighing scale or a milk metering device, a cleaning facility for milk churns and laboratory equipment for testing the milk quality.

The Packo OM/IB open milk cooling tank with ice bank system and instant cooling is ideally suited for this application. Today following capacities are available: 1000 – 1600 and 2500 litres. Each installed cooling system is capable of cooling the full capacity collected in one collection period, so called “One Milking” tank.

Main advantages of the Packo OM/IB milk cooling tanks in this application are as below:
* To maintain the milk quality the cooling has to be done as quickly as possible. Important time is lost between milking and chilling. Therefore, once the milk arrives at the collection centre, very quick cooling is essential. Cooling with the Packo ice water system occurs more than 50 % quicker than with traditional cooling techniques.
* Very small quantities can be cooled without freezing the milk.
* As the electricity supply in the villages is in most cases a problem, the compressor can be selected much smaller (smaller installed power) compared to traditional cooling systems.
* As the inner surfaces remain humid after the collection truck has taken the milk, manual cleaning is very easy.
* To ease manual pouring of the milk directly into the tank a big opening is foreseen into the main cover at the outlet of the milk tank, resulting in less contamination inside compared to an open main cover during collection. On the opening a special designed stainless steel strainer can be placed.
